RIM or Reaction Injection Moulding is a low pressure moulding technique that injects a mixture of two liquid components (an isocyanate and a polyol) into a closed mould. The two material are premixed before injection to form a low viscosity liquid once in the tool they react exothermically increasing volume and temperature forming a polyurethane part to the shape of the tool.
Tools can be manufactured from silicone, ureal/model board or aluminium depending on the volume of parts required. There is a wide range of resins available each resulting in a part with specific physical characteristics allowing for specific performance criteria to be met.
